As the company grew, WooCommerce struggled to support this increasingly complex structure.

Managing professional customer access was one of the biggest challenges. DermaplanePro needed a way to ensure that only licensed aestheticians could purchase certain products and access training resources. The existing system made it difficult to manage approvals, gated content, and trade-only pricing, which created operational friction for both the team and its customers.

Building a Unified Commerce Platform on Shopify Plus

Commence Studio approached the migration as a full rebuild of Dermaplane Pro’s digital commerce infrastructure. The agency implemented Shopify Plus B2B unified commerce, enabling the business to manage professional purchasing, subscriptions, and training resources within a single scalable platform.

The team began by migrating Dermaplane Pro’s WooCommerce catalog, customer accounts, and operational workflows into Shopify. This included configuring Shopify B2B functionality to support trade purchasing, with pricing hidden behind login and professional customers approved through a licensing verification process.

The new platform also introduced gated professional content, ensuring that certification materials, educational resources, and professional-grade tools are accessible only to licensed aestheticians. This structure allowed Dermaplane Pro to maintain industry safety standards while providing practitioners with a more streamlined digital experience.

Commence Studio also redesigned the storefront using a custom Online Store 2.0 theme, improving site navigation and better organizing the brand’s products, certification programs, and educational content. Additional functionality included a Find a Professional locator, allowing consumers to identify certified practitioners in their region.

To support Dermaplane Pro’s subscription business, the team migrated the brand’s autoship system from QPilot to Smartrr, providing a more integrated Shopify subscription experience for recurring product orders.

Backend operations were also strengthened through integrations with Salesforce ERP, Triple Whale analytics, and expanded sales channel integrations. These systems give Dermaplane Pro clearer insight into customer behavior and business performance while streamlining operations across departments.
