A Shopify Promptathon | Reno Startup Week 2026
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use AI prompts to build a real Shopify storefront from scratch. No coding. No design skills. No prior e-commerce experience needed. Everything you need is on this page: the setup steps, all six prompts, and the links we’ll use during the session.
Get Set Up Before the Workshop

Prompt 01
Define Your Brand
Start here. Fill in the three blanks about your business and let AI build your brand foundation.
I'm building an e-commerce brand from scratch. I need you to be my brand strategist and Shopify store assistant for this entire conversation. Everything you create from here on should stay consistent with what we establish in this first message. Here's what I know about my business: - Product category: [e.g., organic skincare, craft hot sauce, handmade candles, pet accessories] - Target customer: [e.g., health-conscious women 25-40, home cooks who like heat, gift shoppers] - What makes it different: [e.g., locally sourced ingredients, family recipes, sustainable packaging] - Price range: [e.g., $15-$45 per item] - Vibe in three words: [e.g., clean and minimal, bold and playful, rustic and handmade] Based on this, give me: 1. A business name (5 options — short, memorable, works as a .com domain) 2. A one-sentence brand positioning statement 3. A tagline (under 8 words) 4. 3 core brand values 5. A color palette with hex codes (primary, secondary, accent, and a neutral) 6. A suggested brand voice description in 2 sentences (how should the brand sound in copy?)
Pro tip: Save your brand name and hex codes. You’ll use them in every prompt after this.
Prompt 02
Build Your Product Catalog
Generate your full starter catalog. Each product comes with everything Shopify needs.
Now let's build the product catalog for our store. Create 4-5 products that fit our brand. For each product, give me: 1. Product title 2. SKU (format: [CATEGORY]-[STYLE]-[SIZE or VARIANT], e.g., HSC-HBNRO-8OZ) 3. Product type (e.g., Hot Sauce, Moisturizer, Candle) 4. Vendor: [YOUR NAME or BRAND NAME] 5. A 120-word product description (benefit-driven, with a lifestyle hook and a sensory detail) 6. 3 bullet points for "Key Features" 7. Retail price and a wholesale price (for future B2B sales) 8. Weight in pounds (for shipping calculation) 9. Starting inventory count (suggest a reasonable number for a new launch) 10. 3 product tags Then create 2-3 product collections to organize them. For each collection: 1. Collection title 2. A 2-sentence collection description 3. Which products belong in it 4. SEO meta title (under 60 characters) 5. SEO meta description (under 155 characters) Format the products as a table and list the collections separately below.
Pro tip: We included a wholesale price for a reason. The store you’re building today works for both DTC and B2B. More on that in the workshop.

Leave the workshop with launch content ready to post.
Let's create launch content for our store. My Shopify store URL will be: [yourstore.myshopify.com] Write the following: 1. INSTAGRAM LAUNCH POST — A caption under 150 words. Conversational tone. Tell the story of why this brand exists, invite people to check out the store, and include a CTA. Add 10 relevant hashtags at the end. 2. FRIENDS & FAMILY EMAIL — Subject line + 200-word body. Personal tone, like you're texting a group chat but slightly more polished. Include a "founding customer" discount code concept (suggest the code and discount amount). End with a direct link to the store. 3. ELEVATOR PITCH — A 60-second spoken pitch I can use at networking events this week.
