Creating Unity Across a Diverse Portfolio
Mars Energy Group operates in industrial & energy — a category that demands its own kind of attention from the brand and the buyer journey both. The work that got the company this far had earned its market share. The brand and digital surface area weren’t carrying the weight at the same level the rest of the operation was.
Mars Energy Group had acquired seven brands through mergers and acquisitions, each serving different segments of the solar industry:
- NewGen Energy: Agricultural, commercial, and industrial sectors.
- K12 Energy: Schools, churches, and small businesses.
- Solora Home Energy: Residential battery and charger installations.
- Unified Renewables: Government and public works.
- CalState Solar: New home construction.
- Ready Home Energy: New home construction.
- SolarCare+: Operations and maintenance services.
- Landmark Power: Agricultural land leases.
The primary challenge was to create a unified feeling across these brands while allowing each to maintain its unique identity. This involved designing a cohesive brand strategy and visual identity system that could be applied across all marketing and sales collateral, ensuring consistency and recognition.
The brief was a system rebuild — the kind of work captured in our master frame: House of Brands Strategy and Unified Visual Identity. Brand strategy, identity refresh, customer-facing experience design, and the post-launch measurement framework that lets the in-house team extend the work without us in the room.
House of Brands Strategy and Unified Visual Identity
Brand Strategy
Developing a Cohesive Framework Commence Studio developed a House of Brands strategy that tied all the subsidiary brands together under the Mars Energy Group umbrella.
Visual Identity
Creating a Unified Look and Feel We created a cohesive visual identity system that included logos, color palettes, typography, and design elements that could be adapted to each brand.
Marketing Collateral
Designing Across Omni-Channel Touchpoints We collaborated with Mars Energy Group's marketing and sales teams to design brand collateral across various touchpoints, including: Print Materials: Brochures, flyers, business cards, and trade show displays. Digital Assets: Website design, social media graphics, email templates, and digital advertisements. Sales Tools: Presentation decks, product sheets, and case studies.
Embedded engagement, not a parachute drop.
Multi-week or multi-month engagement integrated with the in-house team — sprints, syncs, async updates. Trust built through delivering.
A system that survives past the launch.
Design system documentation, brand book, asset library, and the post-launch measurement framework. The in-house team now extends the system independently.
